Chuck's Back!
Friday, May 22, 2009 at 9:00AM A lot happened this week and I was busy following the end of the Hubble Service Mission, but was obviously extremely heartened to hear the news (officially from NBC) that Chuck has been renewed for a 3rd season. Obviously I was very active in the first round of "Save Chuck" campaigning and I'm somewhat amazed I didn't loose more Twitter followers than I did given the rate at which I was campaigning hard for my favorite show. I've written before about my thoughts on why I'm so passionate about the show Chuck so what I wanted to do was just share some of my thoughts on being part of a successful campaign.
The first campaign I ever worked on was the reelection campaign for the former Mayor of Manchester, NH. Unfortunately that campaign didn't turn out the way I was hoping it would and it was fairly gut wrenching to be at the gathering afterwards. I'm not sure I've ever been as active or dedicated to a cause as I was to the "Save Chuck" movement and of course it's open for debate as to whether saving a TV show is really worth the level of passionate I put in.
I do know a couple of things though. It's really nice to feel like you are a part of something, with others who believe in the same thing, to have something to believe in, and to feel like you are doing your part of make a difference. I remember when I went down to Subway on the Monday of the Chuck finale and bought my footlong in support of Chuck, it felt like election day all over again. I felt like I had just cast my vote and was making a real difference. I do believe that my contributions, while not as big as some others, did make a difference and ultimately saved a quality show.
In my view I took a stand and took action to fight for something I believe in, in my case it happened to be a great NBC show known as "Chuck" in other people's perhaps it's a political campaign, or a health cause, etc. Bottom line I'm certainly not going to apologize for actually fighting (perhaps for the first time in my life) for what I believed in. I suppose you have to start somewhere.
I hope everyone will consider watching Chuck when it returns in March!!
